What we can offer employees and job applicants in the reserve forces.

Recognising reservists

We recognise the contribution the reserve forces make to the defence of the country, to the borough and to the civilian workplace.

We also recognise the transferable skills that applicants with an armed forces background could bring to help us deliver our services. 

Armed Forces personnel applying for a job with us

We are committed to shortlisting former service personnel who match the person specifications for our vacancies and who have left the services within the last five years. We will take their transferable skills into account in doing so.

Support for Armed Forces personnel working for us

We support staff who are part of the armed forces community. 

Our offer to reservist employees includes: 

  • 10 days' paid leave each year to attend military training

  • a flexible working policy to help with military commitments

  • management support before, during, and after mobilisation

  • an occupational health service

  • sickness absence pay in line with terms and conditions
  • maternity, paternity and adoption leave in line with terms and conditions

  • corporate Volunteer Reserve Forces guidance used across the organisation

  • death in service scheme.
